This article above is a little misleading when mentioning that Electric cars are better for the environment then their gasoline counterparts.

It mentions the energy spent to produce the electricity and the energy spent to move the car. Compares the emissions of the energy spent to move the car forward and to transport the power to the outlet.

It does not consider the emissions on the power plant to produce the energy that you will use from the outlet. The emissions of a power plant are much higher then of a car engine due to the efficiency, mainly regarding size. A car engine is designed specifically for its consumption and made as efficient as possible for the consumer. The power plant however, has to deal with a lot more volume and a non constant one. So that only makes efficiency much less, not considering all the side losses of the process.

So, if your country uses Coal, Gas, or diesel to generate electricity, is actually the same or even worse to drive an electric car.
